Case Study - AvantiGas Hires Apprentice
CASE STUDY: AVANTIGAS EMPLOYS HIGHLY TECHNICAL MECHANICAL ENGINEERS USING TALENT BANK WORK PLACEMENT SERVICE
”An excellent way of managing the recruitment and selection process. With TalentBank the vacancy was filled within weeks.” Ian McCluskey, HSSE & Technical Manager for AvantiGas
TalentBank is an end-to-end recruitment and training service that provides small businesses with solutions to their Apprenticeship needs.
Hiring apprentices, work placement candidates and internships can help small businesses develop a skilled, motivated and qualified workforce. For AvantiGas using TalentBank took the hassle out of recruitment and made the process of hiring new staff simple and effective.
AvantiGas provides Liquid Petroleum Gas for homes and businesses throughout the UK and prides itself in delivering a cleaner burning fuel in order to achieve a safer and more reliable way to meet energy needs. For AvantiGas, the same values apply to recruitment. The company prides itself in its workforce and continually strives to develop and motivate every one of its employees.
Ian McCluskey, HSSE & Technical Manager for AvantiGas said; “We offer many opportunities in a number of diverse roles, across the business at either our Head Office in Derbyshire or field based across the UK.”
AvantiGas required a Mechanical Engineering Degree student looking for some practical experience by way of an Internship with the view to offer the right candidate permanent employment once qualified. Finding the right candidate to fill the internship vacancy in Ellesmere Port was difficult, due to the technical skills required to work in a major hazardous area. And, the requirement to travel to Scotland meant the vacancy needed someone who could be flexible and willing to travel.
“We work hard to ensure that the right people are matched to a vacancy in order to allow them to thrive in the business and develop their career.” Ian McCluskey knew hiring an Internship for Ellesmere Port would be a challenge so he put TalentBank to the test.
Ian McCluskey commented on the TalentBank service saying:
“This has been an excellent way of managing the recruitment and selection process. The vacancy was filled within weeks which meant for us the whole process was cost-effective and we are delighted with the candidate. The graduate we have recruited is already showing potential to fill a full-time permanent position for an Engineer role, once the six month Internship comes to an end.”
AvantiGas joined EU Skills Network in September 2013 and used the TalentBank recruitment service to fill the vacancy in Ellesmere Port plus another for a LPG Draughtsperson Apprentice in Chesterfield.
Through TalentBank, AvantiGas were able to access training via a local training provider and receive support in facilitating an assessment centre. The TalentBank approach was something AvantiGas hadn’t considered before and they are already looking to recruit two further vacancies in Surrey and Suffolk.
